The true romance of Sachin Tendulkar's story lies in his journey, not the destination

Streets go empty and social life comes to a halt. Heartbeats become louder and expressions more vivid. It is one of those moments, when either there will be unbound joy or the gloom will reign supreme.

Well, it is not any calamity or political upheaval that causes such frenzy. It all happens in India when some Sachin Tendulkar is on his path to yet another glory.

Tendulkar and the art of big game hunting

Big Match Temperament
If you look at Sachin Tendulkar's performance in Wednesday's semi-final in absolute terms, 85 runs off 115 balls with four dropped catches and two favourable reviews make it atypically ordinary by his standards.

But when you factor in the opponent, the stage, the pressure, the wicket which behaved in an un-Mohali manner and how much batsmen after Tendulkar struggled, you realise the innings' worth.

In a game like that, you'd take your runs whichever way they come. Tendulkar has now played three World Cup semi-finals, scoring 65 in 1996, 83 in 2003 and 85 on Wednesday.

Tendulkar bears immense burden World Cup 2011

Tendulkar bears immense burden at World Cup 2011
London, Feb 8 (Reuters): Sachin Tendulkar, possessor of every one-day batting record worth holding, carries an unparalleled weight of expectation over the course of the next two months.

Even the incomparable Australian Don Bradman, whose feats at the crease during the Great Depression sustained an emerging nation's morale, did not endure the pressure Tendulkar will confront at the 10th World Cup opening in Dhaka on Feb. 19.

According to the historian Ramachandra Guha, Tendulkar is the best-known Indian alive with a status equivalent to a Hindu god or a Bollywood film star. When he faced the former Pakistan opening bowler Wasim Akram the television audience in India exceeded the entire population of Europe.

When Sachin played under Imran

New Delhi, Feb 9 (IANS): Not many know, but India's batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar had played under Pakistan captain Imran Khan in 1988, a year before he made his international debut in Pakistan.

In a book titled 'SACH,' by Gautam Bhattacharya, Tendulkar revealed that he played under Imran but as a substitute fielder during a festival match at the Cricket Club of India (CCI) in Mumbai.

Imran asked him to field in the deep and Tendulkar couldn't complete a catch and going back home, in the local train, constantly grumbled about the captain's field placements.

The human side of cricketing 'god' Sachin Tendulkar

The human side of cricketing GOD Sachin Tendulkar
Mumbai, Jan 30 (PTI): Sachin Tendulkar is not known for showing his temper or angry reactions on the cricket field, but at home he is a different person.

Many a time, his mother and wife are at the receiving end of his occasional outbursts, the batting maestro himself revealed at a function on Saturday.

Speaking after releasing a collection of poems penned by his brother Nitin and a CD containing Marathi poems written by his father late Ramesh Tendulkar, the champion batsman said sometimes he does get angry on the field.

"But you have to control your temper on the ground as you are representing India. Sometimes I take out frustration in the dressing room. Many times there are situations when decisions go against you and the match is lost. It has happened many times, but I don't need to take the name of umpires," the 37-year-old veteran of 177 Tests said.

Indian squad for World Cup 2011: Rohit sharma and Ojha out, Piyush Chawla and R Ashwin in

India squad World Cup 2011 Rohit sharma and Ojha excluded, Piyush Chawla and R Ashwin included
ICC Cricket World Cup 2011
The exclusion of middle-order batsman Rohit Sharma was the surprise in India's 15-man World Cup squad announced in Chennai. The other bone of contention had been the second specialist spinner's slot, and the selectors have picked both offspinner R Ashwin and legspinner Piyush Chawla, ahead of left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha. Most of the other names in the squad were along expected lines.

The 15-man squad includes 6 specialist batsmen, 1 wicket keeper, 1 all-rounder, 3 spinners and 4 fast bowlers.

India's major concern ahead of the team selection was the injuries to four first-choice players - Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and quick bowler Praveen Kumar - but the selectors picked all four, confident that they will be fit in time for the tournament which starts on February 19.

India's bowling attack for the World Cup will be significantly different from their standard Test attack, with only Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh being named. The fast bowling pair of Sreesanth and Ishant Sharma, and Ojha are all excluded while Munaf Patel, who helped India to a series-levelling victory over South Africa on Saturday, has found a place as the fourth seamer.
